There are a number of accredited universities that offer online education. But sometimes, people may find it hard to pay for their education, and they usually drop the idea of pursuing a degree at all. To respond to this kind of setback, many institutions of learning offer financial aid and scholarship grants. A lot of universities likewise provide cheaper fees and other payment schemes specifically designed to assist the students in completing a course.

The average tuition fee for online degree courses is around $125 USD to $500 USD per hour of credit. However, if you just invest a little of your time researching on the internet, you may find a lot of bargains in training fees. Apart from these bargains, financial grants for students may assist one in continuing his or her studies. Take for instance the Pell Grant; it affords a maximum of $5,500 USD as financial assistance for students. Also, Ashworth College allows a payment scheme free from interest, which goes as low as $29 USD in a month.

The best way to get a good and quality education through online degree courses is by applying to accredited online universities. Although grants provided by the federal government may be accorded, these fees may not be used in obtaining degrees online especially if you are enrolled in an unaccredited institution. Likewise, you may get rejection from accredited institutions if you are a transferee student, or if you are pursuing a Master’s Degree if you did not come from an accredited university or organization. Otherwise, you may still be considered by the accredited association even if you did not graduate from an accredited one but you will be required to pay a fee.

In order to get the best and the cheapest accredited online institution, a thorough research is necessary. List all the available universities which offer online education and record the tuition fees which each would require. Include all the fees associated to your application including fees for the application itself, matriculation or tuition fee for every credit hour, graduation fees, and fees for issuance of a certification or a degree, and such other costs mandated by the corresponding universities. Also, include other factors which would entail payment of fees such as expenses for textbook and many others. For Master’s Degree and Doctorate degrees online, expect a much pricey tuition fees.

Obtaining a bachelor degree qualification can certainly be a positive step towards an enjoyable and successful career but it has significant educational costs that need to be considered. How does the investment in your education actually pay off in the long run financially? This article looks at how the numbers stack up.

Ok, to begin with we must look at what an online bachelor degree actually costs. The direct cost of education can range anywhere from $2000 to $30,000 a year at some high profile private schools. But for the purpose of this article we are going to use an average figure of $6,500 per year. We then need to add another $800 per year for textbooks, stationary and supplies which brings us to $7300 per year. Based on this, the total cost of a 4 year course the is $29,200. For the ease of understanding lets round that up to $30,000 just to keep it simple.

The direct cost of the education is not the main expense however. The highest online bachelor degree cost (which is not always considered) is the additional cost (or income loss) of the student not working full time while carrying out their bachelor degree program. By choosing to go to college or university to obtain a degree the student’s ability to get a start in his or her chosen career is delayed by a minimum of four years. With this in mind the additional cost of lost income could easily add up to over $100,000 while you are studying for your bachelors degree. For the sake of this article lets use $80,000 or $20,000 per year.

This gives us a total online bachelor degree cost of $110,000. Quite significant money indeed. But does it pay off?

The US Bureau of Labour Statistics recently published data showing that during the first quarter of 2008 full time professionals with bachelors degrees earned a median weekly salary of $1,108 while workers who only had high school diplomas earned a median weekly salary of $615. However I believe this does not give a true indication of the earnings increase the degree actually contributed to as in general the type of people who earn degrees would probably earn an above average wage with or without the degree. So for this discussion I will increase the non degree income by 50% to account for this which equates to a weekly income of $922.

On this basis the degree holders earn on average an additional $186 per week or an annual increase of $9672. So without taking into account other factors such as taxation and inflation it would take 11 years and 4 months for the initial online bachelor degree cost to be covered by the increased earning potential it provides. Over the average working lifespan of 40 years the degree would have earned an additional $386,880. This is more than three times the additional cost!

So you can see from this, that it is clear that obtaining a degree certainly does pay off financially. However it is also important to remember that education has many other benefits that will enrich your life.

In recent years, the nursing shortage in the United Sates has reached an all-time high. Once the majority of the “baby boomers” reach retirement age, there will be a severe lack of medical professionals to provide care for the aging population. One benefit of such a critical situation is apparent, however. For those considering the nursing profession as a career, the average salary of a nursing professional has steadily increased over the last 15 years. This trend is likely continue.

It is impossible for many people to quit their day jobs just to return to college. They are in need of an opportunity that fits their schedule without interfering with family time. The best way to start a career in the nursing profession is to enroll in an online nursing degree program as they work on their day jobs.

There are many distance based programs that also offer online nursing degree programs. Among those that offer this option are Regent’s College of New York, Walden University, and University of Phoenix. Some of them offer entry level programs, but the majority of them are bachelor degree programs online for those who are registered nurses with an associate’s degree.

One of the problems with universities that advertise “earn bachelor degree online” to students is that these universities may or may not be properly accredited. Therefore, students who are contemplating an online nursing degree program would be wise to investigate the school and ensure that it has the credentials to legitimately offer the desired degree. Investing a significant amount of money into a program that failed to deliver the desired result would be distressing.

How to pay for one’s degree is another major concern. Nontraditional students might find it difficult to receive government loans and federal grants. So, these students will need to discover new and creative ways to pay for school. Most trustworthy institutions will have financial aid specialists to answer questions about these nontraditional avenues.

If you plan to try to earn an online nursing degree, you need to know that there are major challenges in front of you. Many people will have difficulty paying for the coursework, and will thus have to balance family and work with their studies. If you can successfully deal with these challenges and earn your degree, then you have achieved a major accomplishment which will be that much more satisfying.
