1. Choosing the best education online institution – Make sure the institute for higher education chosen has adequate resources and accreditation recognized by the proper authorities. Unless authenticity can be verified, find another school. Sadly, unscrupulous degree mills offer degrees with short-term or no real education. Thus, the diplomas are bogus and absolutely worthless. Find a school that provides solid education, ample student support, and the facilities necessary to succeed in your distance learning.

2. Check the cost vs. benefit – Many students don’t check the cost-benefit factor before enrolling into an online education degree college. We are all aware that acquiring an education requires huge amounts of money. But a smart move is to first compare with what the future earning potential of your profession will be once you earn the degree. Once you figure this out, only then would you determine if it makes sense to acquire an online education degree.

3. How do employers view an online education degree? – There are many instances where employers were skeptical about the legitimacy of online education degrees. With so many “diploma mills” out there, it’s warranted for employers to be cautious. Although an online education degree might be legit, it would be very helpful to the employer if you provided the type of accreditation your college has beforehand to avoid any misunderstanding. By letting the employer know in advance that your institution was accredited by an institution that is recognized by CHEA and US department of Education, you will be a step ahead in qualifying for that dream job.

4. Discipline, determination, and time – First time distance learning students are often surprised by the amount of discipline necessary to stay on task and complete the online assignment. It takes unfaltering determination to achieve an online education. In addition, without regularly scheduled classes, it is essential to exercise good time management skills. To keep focused, without the physical presence of educator and peers, it is important to establish communication with other students to have another push toward success in your education degree online

5. Utilize all the facilities provided by your college – Many education degree online courses provide online lectures and email access to facilitate communication among students, lecturers and administration staff. It’s important to take full advantage of these services as they keep you “connected” with your accredited online college. It helps further your motivation in your studies when you make use of these facilities to stay in touch.

6. Make use of Credit transfers – Even institutions solely dedicated to the online education degree will generally accept some, or all, of the credits obtained from another accredited online college or university. So, to avoid the expense and time necessary to retake unneeded courses, make the effort to obtain official transcripts. Then, the applicable credits can be transferred, bringing the student a little closer to that coveted diploma.

7. Make use of the educational technology – Accredited online universities offer a plethora of opportunities for doing necessary research and other facilities to ensure adequate completion of the course. Normally, the cost of virtual libraries, the programs to access online lectures, and even student online access and e-mail accounts are factored into the cost of the course. Therefore, it only makes sense to use all the technology available to make the most of the educational opportunity in achieving an online education degree.

In addition to the sponsorship, Team Grantham already has raised more than $3,500. The money was collected through donations and events such as a bake sale, pie-throwing event, golf tournament and car wash. Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) August 08, 2011

He offered these words of wisdom and encouragement to his fellow classmates. “Each one of us has overcome obstacles, whether they be personal, professional or both, along our ascent up the mountain,” said Constantine. “So now, together we stand atop the summit of our personal mountains, all having taken different paths to get here, forever connected as brothers, sisters and graduates of Grantham University.”

Constantine is a senior instructor for American Family Insurance, specializing in training agents and employees. During his time with American Family Insurance he has been instrumental in the curriculum development and delivery of the company’s new agent training program and has helped hundreds of agents develop effective business and sales and marketing plans for their agencies.

Constantine is just one of an outstanding class of Grantham University graduates.

The United States Department of Labor has found that people who hold a master’s degree actually earn eighteen percent more per week than people who do not have one. The annual report regarding the state of online education in the United States, In Growing by Degrees: Online Education in the United States, 2005, it was reported that 44 percent of schools that offer master’s degree programs in person also offer online master’s degree programs. The convenience of distance learning master’s degree programs makes it easier for working professionals to pursue higher education without compromising their current position.

The United States Department of Education found that over 75 accredited colleges offer MBA education online. Virtual classrooms provide literally hundred of options for graduate students to select from in areas such as science, arts, fine arts, accounting, real estate, education, finance, business administration and more.

Distance learning master’s degree programs require students to hold a bachelor’s degree and dedicate the greater portion of their time to studying independently. The possible curriculum of online master’s degree programs may be delivered through email, virtual lectures, reading assignments, online chats and writing assignments. Some online graduate education programs may require students to physically attend a certain number of courses or workshops to earn residency hours. Testing for online master’s degree programs is frequently done through proctors right in the student’s neighborhood. To help finance their education, students can pursue federal and state financial aid, loans, scholarships and employer tuition reimbursement programs. Students traditionally attend thirty to sixty semester hours to complete a master’s degree, which can be done online in fifteen to thirty-six months.

Master’s degrees are differentiated by post-nominal letters that show the level of academic achievement a student has earned. The most common areas of master’s degree education are Master of Education (MEd, MAT, MSEd), Master of Science (MS), Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). MBA education online programs allow busy business executives to conveniently fit advanced learning into their schedules. Further, one in five students studying to earn a master’s degree pursues an MBA, proving that MBA education online affords more people the chance to achieve higher learning.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, those people who hold a master’s degree enjoy salaries that are $200 higher than those people who hold a bachelor’s degree. Distance learning master’s degree programs enable more people to pursue the dream of higher education without compromising their current circumstances.

The ability to obtain an online education degree has opened the educational doors for many students who cannot afford to attend school on campus as a full-time student. Distance learning courses definitely provide some advantages over the traditional college education. But, because of the methods of delivering and receiving the material, students must consider the 7 things necessary in approaching an online education successfully.

1. Choosing the right accredited online college or university – The first step is to select the right institution to provide for your online education degree. Do your homework before starting school, and make sure the school has been accredited by the appropriate accrediting agencies. Unfortunately, without that educational stamp of approval, the degree will not be worth the paper on which it is printed. In fact, “diploma mills” offer substandard, or no education with the promise of a quick (but worthless) degree.

2. Analyze cost vs. benefit – Some students enroll in a distance learning program without considering the cost. Generally, the cost per credit hour is fairly expensive. However, decide whether the education will translate into better income opportunities down the road. Only after assessing the true benefits can students appreciate the rewards of obtaining an education online degree.

It takes unfaltering determination to achieve an online education. In addition, without regularly scheduled classes, it is essential to exercise good time management skills. To keep focused, without the physical presence of educator and peers, it is important to establish communication with other students to have another push toward success in your education degree online

5. Take advantage of the facilities available – Online lectures and email correspondence are a great venue for facilitating communication with fellow students, tutors, and instructors. Take every opportunity to utilize these options as a means of progressing through the classes, staying motivated, and feeling connected with your accredited online college or university.

6. Make use of Credit transfers – Even institutions solely dedicated to the online education degree will generally accept some, or all, of the credits obtained from another accredited online college or university. So, to avoid the expense and time necessary to retake unneeded courses, make the effort to obtain official transcripts. “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily,” said popular Televangelist Mike Murdock. So, if you have finally made that torturous decision to change your career, then don’t waste any more time on dwelling on the rationale behind your decision. Get your act together and think of ways in which you can give yourself a set of new career skills so that you can gear up for a new career and a new life.

Where Do You Start?

The first step toward acquiring new career skills would be to arrange for funds to enable you to go to school or university. This would generally be the most intimidating step forward for a potential career change. But it would certainly help to remember that nothing comes without a price and if you are able to wangle a better career, a reasonable sense of stability, and more money, then isn’t it worth the investment? Now, the amount of money you would need to set aside and the time factor would depend to a large extent on the kind of skill sets or degrees you plan to acquire. For instance, one could do 2-3 years’ full time or 4-6 years’ part time to obtain a degree in college or university.

Where To Get Information?

Once you have made up your mind to enroll yourself for higher learning, perhaps the web is the best place to start the hunt. Comprehensive resources are available on the web on re-entry to colleges and universities and there are a great many programs offered by educational institutions that are specially designed and developed for back-to-college adults of a wide-ranging age cohort. All kinds of information, like courses, programs, accredited online degrees, financial aid, scholarships, grants and credit for life experience are just a click away.

Other Options For Funding

Acquiring new career skills means spending money. For this, one may have to work longer hours, do another job, ask your partner to chip in by doing extra hours, take a loan and most importantly, cut down on spending. Although one has many options, it is important to decide which ones suit the best.

Short – Term Training Courses

Colleges and Universities are not the only places where one could acquire new skill sets. There are a plethora of short-term courses, many of which would help you get your foot in the door and pave the way for gaining expertise or specialization in a particular field of activity. Then again, one has to exercise considerable caution while selecting the course as well as the institution offering it, as there are many places offering such short-term courses which prove highly ineffective and are of little help to you in arming yourself with new career skills or establishing yourself in a new career. Alternatively, you could skip the training part and straight away embark on a new career, but this may perhaps have little long-term benefits or may fail to offer you any kind of job stability. So do it the hard way and enroll yourself for some extra learning in order to prepare yourself to meet the demands of a new career.
