Feeling like you’re in a rut in your life? Think that you can do better than your current job? Well, usually in times like these it’s time to take stock at things and look at what you can do to improve your lot in the world. Right now, the best option that you can take is to improve yourslef by getting an online college degree.

It may sound a bit weird since distance learning degrees, which online degrees are technically part of, are usually regarded of in a less than positive light, but with the changing times an online degree is becoming a very useful tool in levering up oneself in the rat race. Some people usually take time off from work to work on their PhDs and its not much more different than taking an online course ” though it has a distinct advantage over the more traditional option.

First of all, doctorate degrees take years to get ” online courses are usually bachelor-level degrees and don’t take that much time or work. Admittedly a bachelor degree is no match for a doctorate, but still if you’re trying to affect a change in your life you don’t need a doctorate unless you’re in a specialized field. For seventy percent of employees, an additional degree would be enough. The time factor is also noticeable that your course can be done in a year or eighteen months depending on your choice of level ” all of this without even taking a day-off from work if you do it correctly.

Secondly, you’ll be saving a lot of money. All of us remember our college loans and we distinctly remember them being a pain in the ass to pay-off. You won’t be taking out any of those loans, nor will you be bankrupting your nest egg to take any of these courses. Online courses are cheaper than classroom courses by dint of lower maintenance costs and other factors. You’ll probably only have to be in a classroom during midterms or at the end of the term, mostly because of testing ” your normal college expenses of room, board, transportation are not a problem. Your main investment is time and it will be time well-spent; and it’s something that can be easily let go of in the current economy.

Finally, it’s all about flexibility. Online courses have schedules but they’re pretty loose ” you’re most likely learning on your own at home and putting a clock on that is not exactly conducive to a learning environment. Coursework and testing is also done usually at the middle and at the end of the term, depending on the course and this gives a lot of elbow room to study, unlike traditional courses with heavy workloads and usually weekly assignments and tests.

These three positive factors are what you’re looking at when you try and get an online college degree. So what are you waiting for? Change your life today and hit the books!

It goes without saying that the fast-paced and dynamic world of technology has provided a lot of opportunities for everyone. The recent innovation, especially in the World Wide Web, has allowed people to share and connect wherever they are in the world. This same evolution has been reflected in our current educational system. The concept of an accredited online college would be unheard of a decade ago; today, we are able to complete our degrees and graduate from an accredited college in the comfort of our own homes — even outside of the United States!

The means of application to an online college is in no way easier in terms of looking at students’ core competencies. The usual procedure is still expected of students who want to take advantage of an online program. For example, a student from Australia or Canada now has a chance to study in the college of their choice through the online college degree program. If you are lucky and able to get into a top accredited online college, you have saved yourself a lot of money for travel, relocation and other expenses. This is a more convenient and cost-efficient way to get into the school of your dreams.

The results of your application were favorable. What’s next? Getting accepted into an accredited college or university will now allow you to apply for scholarships, study grants and financial assistance. You will be amazed at how these schools also provide the same benefits and grants that come with online college programs. It is important to take note though, that the traditional universities still offer higher scholarship packages than those virtually present. This is an ultimately reasonable deal since online students will not need dorm, transportation or gas expenses.

The number of accredited online college programs currently being availed of by different students around the globe increase by the minute. Wherever they are in the world, they are and will be treated the same way as one would in a traditional, physical setting. This also provides the online students the opportunity to not be intimidated by a strict professor or nervous classmates.

Choosing the best accredited online college for you can be an interesting and exciting experience. There still may be a lot of questions around this topic, but the answer is quite simple — if you are able to investigate, do your research and read various reviews about your program and college of choice, you are well on your way to completing my education through an accredited online degree program.

Going back to school is not that easy especially if you are busy with your responsibilities such as job, family and life. Attaining a higher education is not simple at all. It takes time, effort and of course your money that made a lot of people to think whether to continue schooling or not. This is where online education programs started to exists.

More and more people find online education very beneficial in their life and career. The only substantive difference between traditional school campus and online education is the building. There is no face-to-face interaction between the student and the professor because the Internet makes it possible to unite them wherever they are located. No need to travel or fixed class schedule. You can choose a class schedule because there are online schools available 24 hours and 7 days a week. It simply means that you can study at night while your kids are sleeping or early in the morning before you go to work. It offers its student all the convenience they are looking in achieving a higher education.

Despite of being busy in many responsibilities that each person has to attend, they are still the ambitious learners who want a better college degree to get promotions or better careers. Since they are restricted by time, transportation or resources, they could still advance their careers through taking an online education. They select online education in getting the comparable quality of education that are offered in traditional schools but in a lesser time and money. Students pursuing a higher education online could cultivate lifelong learning while overcoming the barriers such as working full-time, family responsibilities, remote location and other social commitments.

There are great number of traditional institutions that adopted online degree programs to cater millions of online students all over the world. And if you are planning to enroll in one of those universities, you have to be sure in selecting the right school for you. It is important that the school is accredited and well-established to provide you with the quality education. Because most employers do some research of the college or university where you graduated to determine if the certificate or diploma you have is not fake. Long-distance learning is now enjoying prolific popularity for many good reasons. Flexible scheduling, wider range of available curricula, and vast savings are just a few of the major “pluses” offered by online studies. To maximize enrollment levels, institutions are increasingly jumping on the Elearning bandwagon. You see, educational institutions are actually businesses.

You may have imagined those hallowed halls as havens of altruism and intellectual insights. Why would folks whose names are followed by more letters contained in a bowl of alphabet soup ever consider money! Well, wake up and smell the coffee, kiddo. Schools have bills to pay like everybody else. After all, do you think all those Mercedes and Jaguars in the faculty parking lot are just generous gifts from Santa? Think again, and again. Break out the notepads for some serious scholarly scrutiny into some hard-core realities. Class has now begun.

All schools are not the same

Many schemes, scams, and flimflams abound to exploit those who are desperately seeking degrees. Many are operated by outright con artists who issue a worthless piece of paper for your valuable green paper – US currency, that is.

Others are more subtle, however. Their plausible presentations as legitimate institutions are perfect. You can actually learn a lot at some of them, and graduate with heightened horizons and high hopes. Only to find them dashed.

Pay close attention, class: just employers and licensing boards require certain credentials from you; the school which confers your pretty piece of paper must also be vouched for. If the institution or specific program you completed does not carry the right rubber stamp, you may as well line the kitty box with your diploma.

Accreditation is key

What is accreditation? It is an official, recognized endorsement that a school meets minimum quality standards of educational excellence. Accredited online college courses are picked apart with a fine-toothed comb and examined under a giant “electrocational” microscope. Physical facilities, faculty academic credentials, adequacy of research and clinical facilities, budget figures, etc.; the list goes on and on. After being picked apart and put back together, the school is granted accreditation if it satisfies all minimum criteria.

What does this mean to me?

A lot, kiddo! Unless your school offers accredited online college courses, it – and you – may as well be ghosts. Accreditation is a standard requirement for professional licensing in virtually every state. Employers also put little stock in your degree if your school is not accredited. Neither will Uncle Sam grace you with his ten-million-mile financial aid wand – unless your school is accredited.

In a nutshell, you will shell out a lot of money, effort and time for what amounts to a useless wall decoration. Class, believe me when I say that you can do a lot better at the $7.95 sale at your local Bargain Basement.

Sidestep the Traps

First, insure that your school offers only accredited online college courses. You can search the US Dept. of Education’s database at to verify any school’s accreditation.

You want to see “regional” accreditation in a school’s credentials. There are six officially-recognized accreditation agencies within the US. Each agency covers a different part of the country. These are the only recognized accreditation agencies.

Beware of schools that boast “national” accreditation. Agencies that issue national “accreditation” are typically owned and funded by the institutions they certify. It does not take a rocket scientist to readily realize the relative worthlessness of such “accreditation”.

Now for the Bonus Question

Ok, your homework is complete. Everything checks out. The school is accredited by the proper agency. Before you start zooming through online admission applications faster than the speed of light – wait! There’s one more detail that definitely demands further verification.

Your particular program of study within an institution should also be accredited. This is especially vital for those pursuing fields of study that require licensure after graduation. The Dept. of Education site also provides easy verification of specific institutional programs. You can search by type of program, or by geographical location.

The Final Test

You are now properly prepared to evaluate any school or program before enrolling. You are on a surer path with a much firmer foundation for academic success. Here is today’s test question: Where is the only place where you find success before work? Answer: the dictionary! Class dismissed.

There are number of reasons someone would want to choose an online college education. However, there are still those skeptics who think that getting your degree online is a cop out. They do not realize how much time and work go into being able to make it all work together.

Here are some questions you may ask about online education.

Will I learn the same things if I go to school online?

The answer to that question is yes. The online college education you are looking to receive is going to offer you the same programs and the same level of education you would receive from a traditional college. The online school will even work with local businesses so you can get in lab work and other requirements that are needed to be completed outside of class. The only major difference is the lack of a classroom setting.

Is my degree going to be the same?

Again, you will receive the same degree from an online college education as you would receive from a traditional school. The key to this is the fact that the schools need to be accredited in order for the degree that they give you to be worth anything. If you have a degree from a place that is nit accredited, many times, it will be viewed as a waste of your time and that you did not get your money’s worth.

    Is it easier?

No, online college education is not easy. In fact, in most cases it is harder because it will require more self-discipline and it will be necessary for the students to do a lot of self-study. However, in the long run all of the hard work and dedication that is put into the education will pay off and allow you to better yourself.

    Benefits of Higher Education

Edit Article | Posted: Nov 24, 2010 |Comments: 0 | Share Syndicate this Article Copy to clipboard

The message of The College Board’s Education Pays 2010 recent report is clear”investing more money in higher education is beneficial to both individuals and society as a whole. Studies show that college graduates, as opposed to a person with only a high school diploma, are more likely to hold a job, earn a higher yearly income, and to make healthier, less costly social and lifestyle choices. Whether earned in a ground school or online college, the benefits of a college degree are numerous.

A student’s level of education has been found to have a direct impact on salary earned. On average, a person with a bachelor’s degree makes over two times the yearly income of a person who has only earned a high school diploma. Additionally, education level affects unemployment rates. The rate of unemployment among people who hold a high school diploma or less is much higher than that of college graduates.

Investing in higher education has also been shown to aid state and local governments. Higher education institutions produce tax revenue, and communities with a higher percentage of college graduates save money on government funded social and public assistant programs due to a decreased need for this type of assistance.

Educated people are also more likely to take an active role in their community and to vote in elections. And, studies have shown that they make healthier lifestyle choices regarding eating and exercise, which in turn result in lower health-care costs.

Pursuing a post-secondary degree, then, is not only good for your wallet; it can also be good for your health, well-being, and success.

While visions of “Animal House” do come to mind when thinking of college, it’s more often the individuals who made up that group – the kids in their late teens and the twenty-something adults running between brick buildings covered in sprawling ivy; as much concerned about the latest fashions or an up-coming frat party, as the upcoming midterm or final. They’d be in for a surprise. College is no longer reserved for those fresh out of high school.

The growth of online college programs opened the doors of higher education to a broader range of individuals and changed the way many students choose to pursue their degree. Classes can be taken from anywhere with an Internet connection, and are quickly becoming a popular option for completing a degree. In fact, online degree programs offer students many advantages over traditional brick-and-mortar schools. For one, classes can be completed on the student’s own schedule. This can free up time, allowing them to better fulfill their personal responsibilities.

Many students who are interested in continuing their education after high school, but want to be able work and earn money are enrolling in online colleges. Thanks to the flexible schedules distance education provides, students can fit both school and work more easily into their daily lives. This may help them pay for their classes and stay out of debt.

Online classes may also be a good fit for busy parents who are interested in furthering their schooling. As anyone with children knows, young ones tend to set the schedule for a family. With virtual education, parents have the option to complete their coursework after tending to their children’s needs. Further, whether they are completing a degree they never finished or going back to school to earn higher qualifications, online classes can help parents set a positive example for their children by showing them that education can lead to a better life.

Some parents may worry that pursuing a degree might take too much time and money that could otherwise be spent on their family. However, many high-paying jobs require higher education. Completing a degree can greatly improve a parent’s earning potential, enabling them to provide a better life for their children.

Additionally, degree programs online are often less expensive than classroom-based programs. These days, many a working parent knows that every penny counts, especially when the kids are constantly growing out of their clothes and attacking the fridge like a pack of starving wolves. This makes education at a distance a better financial fit for a number of students.

As for those who remember when their classes involved nothing but book-laden travel from one room to another, only to sprawl in an uncomfortable chair and listen to a professor lecture, there’s a worry that adjusting to virtual learning will be difficult, even if more comfortable on their couch. Luckily, just about every school out there is well aware of this. As such, they have set up special departments staffed with personnel skilled in making the transition a lot easier.

For many students, there are two major stress factors in college. One of them is money, more specifically, worry about the cost of tuition. The other issue is selecting classes; not only do individual classes have to be chosen; eventually they will have to select a major. For too many, there are sometimes just too many choices; they need to narrow down the fields.

Many students feel like the cost of a college degree is exorbitant and blown out of proportion for what’s reasonable. It’s true that classes don’t come cheaply. Students would absolutely appreciate a free class to help lessen the burden of the cost of tuition, but it seems ridiculous that any college would offer a class without charge.

Actually, there’s an existing place online that offers free college courses for students who are looking to experiment with distance learning. For the low cost of absolutely zero, students can attend a college course. Although the idea of a free class may seem unbelievable, it’s real and it’s going on today, ready to be accessed by you!

There are a few qualifications you have to meet in order to register for these online courses, but they aren’t anything that require you to jump through flaming hoops. First and foremost, you must be a U.S. citizen over the age of 18. You may also be a permanent resident of the United States – as long as you’re one or the other, you’re fine.

The second set of qualifications is equally as simple, and probably something you’ve already completed! In addition to being a resident of the U.S., you must have a high school diploma or a GED equivalent. As long as you’ve graduated from high school or earned your GED, you’re on track to enroll in one of these free college courses!

The final few qualifications are also pretty simple to get under your belt. You can’t already be enrolled in college, because we want your experience in learning at this online program to be your first and best introduction to higher education. Also, you can’t have defaulted on any student loans.

The courses offered are to give you a great first introduction to higher education. You’ll find you can choose from classes like English Composition or Introduction to Psychology, both of which are commonly offered at schools across the nation as part of a general education program. Other introductory courses are also offered in criminal justice, business and medical terminology, to give you a true taste for the opportunities that await! Introductory courses will make your life so much easier when it comes time to select a major, because you’ll already have experienced exactly what subject it is that you’re truly excited and intrigued by.
